STATEMENT OF THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY INTERNATIONAL
____
The Church of Scientology International strongly condemned today’s terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. It called on world religious and political leaders to act with reason and work together to avert an escalation.
“While we denounce all forms of terrorism, blind vengeance often hurts the innocent and plays into the hands of terrorists,” said Reverend Janet Weiland, Vice President of the International Church. “And while the people responsible must be found and held accountable for their acts, we must not permit this to undermine rational efforts to create peace and understanding among people of different cultures.”
The Church has instructed its staff and volunteers to work with officials and disaster relief organizations to help organize blood drives and food drives to the areas most affected and are providing free training in simple actions people can do to ease the trauma of anyone affected by these tragic events.
“We are working alongside numerous other faiths in New York, Washington and Los Angeles to help restore and maintain calm. Scientologists are very adept at handling trauma and confusion and they are everywhere and doing all they can,” said Reverend Weiland.
