CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO TRAIN THOUSANDS OF VOLUNTEER MINISTERS

____

Throughout October and November, Churches of Scientology around the world are holding events to announce the launch of a campaign to train thousands of Volunteer Ministers to respond to the increasing demand for their services.

The Volunteer Minister Program is a worldwide grass-roots movement open to anyone interested in helping others. The program answers the question of how to help by providing a broad range of practical skills based on a true understanding of the spiritual nature of man and the factors that influence his survival. With these skills, the Volunteer Minister can relieve pain and sorrow, and remedy confusion, upset and even failure in virtually every aspect of life.

Since 1978, Volunteer Ministers have provided real help to disaster relief projects for earthquakes, bombings, floods, hurricanes, war zones, and many other circumstances.

Over the last year, Volunteer Ministers have brought relief and assistance to those in need following a major earthquake in northern India, earthquakes in El Salvador and Peru and most recently to those affected by the tragedy at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

“Our Volunteer Ministers are still helping in New York City,” said the Reverend Janet Weiland of Church of Scientology International. “After the initial physical disaster, there was a strong demand for volunteers to assist family members of those who had died in the tragedy. This assistance ranged from grief counseling to helping aggrieved relatives through the mountain of paperwork and administrative hurdles that confronted them.”

Because of this increased demand, the Church is training thousands of new Volunteer Ministers. “Our ultimate goal is to have at least as many Volunteer Ministers as the world has policemen. Then we will truly see an improvement in the state of the world,” Reverend Weiland said.
