5 Sep 2006 — MK-Ultra Whistleblower Awarded for Exposing Human Rights Abuses

EAST GRINSTEAD, ENGLAND: Hundreds of human rights activists recently joined local dignitaries and ambassadors at the annual awards banquet of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, as CCHR awarded distinguished author Gordon Thomas for a lifetime of achievement in exposing human rights abuses.

Mr. Thomas's benchmark achievements include unravelling the US government mind control program known as MK-ULTRA, and the role British psychiatrist Dr. William Sargant played in its development.

In his books including "Journey into Madness" and "Mindfield," Mr. Thomas details the methods Dr. Sargant employed to the end of controlling human behavior.

Lady Margaret McNair, the Executive Director of CCHR in the United Kingdom, remarked: "The shocking abuses Mr. Thomas has uncovered are a catalogue of crimes that remains unequalled. His nomination for the award was unanimous."

In presenting the award, children's rights campaigner Mr. Sebastien Sainsbury stated: "Gordon Thomas's book, The Secret History of CIA Torture & Germ Warfare Experiments, is a culmination of his lifetime work as a tireless investigator into the continuing abuses that blight our society."

The Awards Banquet marked CCHR's 37th year as a major Human Rights organization. CCHR was responsible for the first "Bill of Rights for Mental Patients" adopted by the United Nations, and since that time it has arranged for the introduction and passage of over 30 pieces of legislation passed by the United States Congress and other legislative bodies.

CCHR was established by the Church of Scientology in 1969, and has 150 Chapters in 30 countries. It is widely respected as the world's leading psychiatric watchdog, exposing abuses in psychiatry and allied fields.

Lady Margaret McNair, Executive Director of CCHR in the UK, addresses the distinguished guests.

Gordon Thomas, renowned author and recipient of the CCHR Human Rights Award for 2006.
