7 Nov 2006 — Drug-Free Ambassadors Coming Down Hard on Meth

The use of methamphetamines (also known as speed, base or ice) has become a major concern of the public and law enforcement, with increased violence and difficulties handling DIPs (drug induced psychoses) in emergency rooms.

The Drug-Free Ambassadors have printed 250,000 anti-drug booklets to kick start a new drug-free era Australia.

To combat this, the Drug Free Ambassadors have expanded their efforts and activities to coordinate and assist all activities associated with drug prevention, education and rehabilitation.

Spokesman Cyrus Brooks said, "We are serious about making effective strides against the drug scourge. And we have to. Ice busts are reported by the police weekly. Reports in the street are that youth are having a tough time on this and other drugs. The drug-education has to reach them. We have to work harder."

The Ambassadors announced that they've printed 250,000 anti-drug booklets to kick start a new era for Australia. This huge print run was sponsored by the International Association of Scientologists, which is well known for its anti-drug stance and concern about this problem.

"These include 10 new booklets on the most commonly abused drugs; it even has information on inhalants – petrol or paint sniffing. This infusion of education to the youth of our society will help handle their curiosity and enable them to differentiate between the facts and outright false information. It will give them the 'Truth about Drugs,' which is what the new campaign is called,"continued Brooks.

The Ambassadors encourage people to join in and get their own anti-drug activity running — drug lectures in schools, to businesses or community groups, drug-free concerts, sports or other activities. They welcome any group to use the anti-drug literature they have assembled.

The Drug Free Ambassadors is a drug education and prevention program and its volunteers go out on the streets, to fairs, malls, schools — wherever youth congregate — to pass on the message and ask them to take a seven-point pledge. "L. Ron Hubbard once said, 'Save the child, and you save the nation,' and by helping children make informed decisions we feel our work has tremendous impact," said Brooks.

Modeled after the Drug-Free Marshals, which was created by the Church of Scientology International 13 years ago, the Drug Free Ambassadors was recently recognized by the Federal Treasury and the Department of Family and Community Services as a tax deductible charity and was put on the register of Harm Prevention Charities.
