The once bucolic town of Plant City, which began revitalizing its downtown in the 1990's, added the Church of Scientology of Tampa's Life Improvement Center to its roster of buildings, with the March 18th ribbon cutting at 112 North Collins Street.

The acknowledgements to the Church from community leaders and dignitaries included the Hillsborough County Commissioner's statement, thanking the Church for being a great community partner, and the gift from Congressman Gus Bilirakis of a flag that was flown over the United States Capitol.
Actress Erika Christensen, star of the TV show, Six Degrees, and the critically acclaimed film, Traffic, joined Church officials in cutting the ribbon at the Plant City Center. Ms. Christensen told Plant City residents, gathered to commemorate this special event, "You value what I, as a Scientologist, also hold dear: having a strong, loving family, being honest and maintaining one's integrity." And she went on to emphasize the importance of "using our talents and abilities to make the society around us a better one."
Donald Hallback, President of the National Association for Tourism and Conventions and leader of the Plant City township of Bealsville, welcomed the Church, which he described as "a religion of religions."

The 11,000 square-foot center houses 44 state-of-the-art exhibits including 12 audio visual systems to help anyone find out about Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard, and learn about Dianetics and Scientology beliefs and practices. They also cover the Church's anti-drug, human rights and volunteer minister programs and other social betterment activities Scientologists undertake to help hundreds of thousands of families and children around the world.
The center features two film rooms, a lecture room and two rooms for community betterment programs such as the English as a Second Language program the Church has been running in Plant City since last fall.
The Scientology religion was founded and developed by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard as a precise path to a complete and certain understanding of one's true spiritual nature.
