19 Apr 2007 — Scientology Volunteer Ministers Continue Their Disaster Relief Actions in the Solomon Islands

For the past two weeks a team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers (VMs) has been helping with the relief effort in the Solomon Islands.

A Volunteer Ministers assist workshop in a village on the island of Gizo in the Solomon Islands.

The team has been on the island of Gizo, where most of the damage from the earthquake and tsunami occurred.

The first villages they visited were Manda and Titiana. In Manda there was only one house left; in Titiana, where there had been 250 houses before, only four were left standing.

The VMs started helping the people they met who were in shock over the loss of their homes and devastated by the deaths of friends and family members. And to help as many people as possible, they have been delivering workshops in Scientology assists—procedures developed by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of the Scientology religion. Scientology assists help people address the emotional and spiritual side of the trauma, enabling them to recover fully from injury, stress or shock.

In one village, the volunteers trained the mothers to give assists. The mothers then took over helping the rest of the villagers, with the village chief overseeing their activities to make sure they were applying exactly what they were taught.

The Scientology Disaster Relief team is comprised of volunteers and is supported entirely by donations. To join the team or help fund their activities visit the Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site, or contact the International Volunteer Ministers Consultant at vm@volunteerministers.org

Dave, one of the children the Volunteer Ministers met in Gizo, survived the tsunami by scrambling up this palm tree when he saw the wave approaching.
