This year's third annual Church of Scientology of New York Volunteer Ministers Street Fair was a major Times Square event. As announced in The New York Times, an entire block of West 46th street right off Times Square was transformed into a festival that included crafts, clothing and jewelry stalls, and food vendors representing many of the varied cultures of the city where the term "melting pot" was first coined.

Two booths that were star attractions of the day were the Volunteer Ministers tent and the Dianetics "Stress Test" Booth.
The yellow t-shirts of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers became symbols of help after 9/11, when hundreds of volunteers from the Church of Scientology of New York were joined by Scientologists from all across America and as far away as Europe and Asia to provide whatever service was needed to the men and women at Ground Zero. Stephan Hittman, Chief Executive Officer of the 9/11 Foundation and Honorary Commissioner of the New York Fire Department acknowledged their contribution by awarding the Church the Medal of Valor and 9-11 Service Award for their "unwavering commitment to firefighters, to paramedics, to other rescue workers."
And many of the volunteers who were recognized for their contribution six years ago were on hand at the fair to provide one-on-one help to any of the thousands of New Yorkers and tourists who came to the Times Square festivities that day.
The Church of Scientology of New York is famous for their Dianetics booths, which they set up year-round throughout the City. And on the day of the fair there was a steady stream of people, eager to locate the cause of stress in their lives (and relieved and often astonished to be able to pinpoint the exact source of it in a matter of moments).

With thousands of visitors and hundreds of participants, the Third Annual Church of Scientology of New York Volunteer Ministers Street Fair was a complete success. L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the Scientology religion, once wrote, "A being is only as valuable as he can serve others." Through the course of the day and well into the night, the Scientologists of the Church of Scientology of New York once again demonstrated their value through their service to the people of the greatest city on Earth.
