27 Jun 2008 — Churches of Scientology of Colorado Disaster Response Team

Following the recent tornado in Windsor, Colorado, The Colorado Churches of Scientology Disaster Response (CSDR), members of the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) traveled to the town to assist the residents recover from a disaster that destroyed nearly 600 homes.

The team provided water, ice and food to over a thousand residents and relief workers in the devastated area, and hosted an interfaith community cook-out that fed 350 residents on what would ordinarily have been the town's celebration of Memorial Day weekend.

The team was comprised of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, some of whom are C.E.R.T. (Citizen Emergency Response Training) trained or have assisted in other U.S. disasters including the Greensburg, Kansas tornado and Hurricane Katrina. They also provided "Assists"—simple techniques developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, to help people recover from loss and trauma.

For more than twenty-five years Scientology Volunteer Ministers have brought relief to those devastated by earthquakes, tornados, floods, cyclones and wildfires. They also offer training to individuals and groups in the techniques they use, based on the Scientology Handbook. These techniques have earned the Volunteer Ministers a reputation for restoring calm and helping individuals recover from shock and loss.
