4 Jul 2008 — Volunteer Ministers of Tamil Nadu, India

More than three years after the tsunami brought thousands of volunteers to the Tamil Nadu province of India, the Mobile Volunteer Ministers Center continues to serve the towns and villages of the region.

Begun by a group of French Scientologists who came to help the survivors of the disaster, the group has become a grassroots movement that travels from town to town, providing help in the form of courses and seminars, and individual counseling whenever needed.

"We came with our entire family," says Prisca Arrighi, who, along with her husband, created the Mobile Center. "We fell in love with the children and decided to stay in India to continue to give our help. With our team, composed of French volunteers who came when the tsunami hit and scores of local residents, every day we help people to the best of our ability."

On her web site, Ms. Arrighi recalls one of the incidents that convinced her to stay in the region. Her team helped a fisherman who had lost everything. Afterwards, he told them this story:

Some of the Tamil Nadu children the Volunteer Ministers help.

"I lost my entire family to the tsunami wave. Everyone here is gone. Today I had the opportunity to meet the Scientology Volunteer Ministers when they came to my village to help us. They gave me a Scientology assist*. I could feel my mind become calmer bit by bit. I was able to find myself and once again began to think of the future. In the end I once again wanted to live. I am going to train to help my friends and neighbors as the Volunteer Ministers helped me."

Among the most popular services the Scientology Volunteer Ministers provide is a seminar on study technology, developed by Scientology founder, L. Ron Hubbard. A recent acknowledgement from an educator is typical of the response these volunteers get to this program.

"I am very happy with the terrific seminar and unique course of education called 'The Technology of Study' based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard. I am certain this course will help me learn more and share my experiences with my students, friends and others of good will. I hope that you will continue to serve humanity and share your knowledge, skill and experience with present and future generations. May God bless your work."

*Scientology assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard that help orient the individual to his present environment. They greatly speed healing by addressing the spiritual component in illnesses and injuries.
