30 Jul 2008 — Churches of Scientology Disaster Response

As the recent weeks have shown, whether it is floods in the U.S. Midwest, Northern California fires, a Myanmar cyclone or a typhoon in the Philippines, where there is a disaster one will soon see the yellow shirts of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. Operating on a purely volunteer basis, these men and women travel, sometimes from distant lands, to help when the help is really needed.

For more than 25 years, Churches of Scientology Disaster Response (CSDR) has brought relief in times of disasters.

For more than 25 years, churches of Scientology disaster Response (CSDR) has brought relief to those devastated by earthquakes, tornados, floods, bombings and war-related disasters. CSDR volunteers are active in almost all 50 U.S states and in many other countries around the world, providing services.

In addition to their expertise in organizing confused areas so vital services can be delivered to survivors and disaster responders, volunteers provide Scientology Assists—simple, light, non-intrusive techniques developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard that help people cope with the spiritual and emotional aspects of trauma, accidents and injuries.

With "service" as their watchword, Churches of Scientology Disaster Response Teams, wearing their signature yellow t-shirts, arrive on the scene shortly after the first responders. They meet with local emergency managers and laws enforcement officials to coordinate their actions and provide any immediate assistance needed, such as organizing a confused area, supplying food and water manning points of distribution and providing volunteers to assist with needed projects.

As soon as possible they begin providing assists to survivors, first responders and care-givers.

The Churches of Scientology Disaster Response teams response internationally with teams in over 100 countries. In the United States, CSDR organizations belong to their local or state VOADs (Volunteers Organizations Active in Disaster)

They work side by side with local officials, first responders, VOAD volunteers, the Red Cross and Red Crescent, FEMA and other disaster relief groups to fulfill the immediate and longer term needs at the disaster site.
