What is Scientology

The goal of auditing is the restoration of personal ability. This is accomplished by (1) helping the individual rid himself of any spiritual disabilities and (2) increasing individual abilities. Both are necessary for an individual to achieve his full spiritual potential.

An auditor helps the individual to improve his condition by allowing him to find his own answers to life’s problems. Auditing is not something that is done to a person. Its benefits can only be achieved through active participation and good communication between the person receiving the auditing and the auditor. Through auditing one is able to look at his own existence and improve his ability to confront what he is and where he is. Auditing is precise, thoroughly codified and has exact procedures.

A fundamental concept of Scientology is that increased spiritual awareness is the only factor which offers any road to increased survival and happiness. Through auditing one becomes free, but that freedom must be augmented by knowledge of how to stay free. Scientology also contains the know-how necessary to handle and control the laws of life. Knowing the mechanisms by which spiritual freedom can be lost places one outside their influence. The practice of Scientology, then, is composed of equal parts of auditing and training — the study of Scientology principles. Many courses of training are available in the Scientology religion. The fundamentals of Scientology are used to improve conditions in all areas of life.

Scientology brings one to an understanding about why people have the problems they do, why they sometimes have trouble communicating with those they care for, what are the root causes of upsets in life, and how one can successfully handle such incidents. Scientology provides tools one can use to help others — enabling a child to learn, assisting a friend to recover from the trauma of an accident, repairing a failing marriage or simply helping another to lead a happy and productive life.

Auditing
A central practice of the Scientology religion, auditing, is conducted by a Scientology minister (left), called an auditor (one who listens, from Latin audire, to listen). The person receiving auditing (right) is a preclear, from pre-Clear, one who is not yet Clear but through auditing is finding out more about himself and life.
