read one of the very first articles on Dianetics, which appeared in a magazine. I was enthralled. I sent off for the book, had it airmailed to me, then sat down and read it. I found it was something I could use immediately to help others. With all the psychology and various other books available at that time, there was nothing which gave you specific steps to apply which would enable you to handle anything about yourself or to help someone else.
We all knew people who had suffered with personal problems for years and years, problems they never thought they could get rid of. But with Dianetics, we found we could take somebody who had been sad from losing a loved one, handle the incident and change their whole life. It gave people a chance to be free, to get rid of the things that bothered them.
I saw the results for myself many times. For instance, in the fall of 1950, a woman came to me seeking help for her teen-age daughter. Since the death of her father, the girl had been morose, depressed and withdrawn, seeming to have lost all interest in life. I agreed to audit her. After a two or three hour session, her depression and a great confusion suddenly lifted, and she came alive again, hugging her mother joyfully as soon as she saw her.
I talked to the girl’s mother a few weeks later, and she reported that her daughter was once again happy, going out with her friends and doing well in school. The mother also said that she was no longer traumatized about her father’s death and could openly talk about him. It was really wonderful to be able to remove the mental and spiritual blocks and see a bright, happy young gild instead of a lost soul.
And I have seen the same kind of miracle results time and time again over the last 50 years. Dianetics and Scientology provide people with principles they can use and apply to rid themselves of problems in life, to improve their outlook and intelligence and to become really free.
Nothing like this has ever existed before!
